The Miz filmed a cameo in a movie called “Stainless Steel” and also features WWE’s Matt Striker and Layla. The flick is due out in August.

A few days before he’s scheduled to appear at a meet and greet at Sports USA on Fort Bragg, Mike “The Miz” Mizanin is still recovering from Thanksgiving eating habits.

“I’m still so full of turkey right now,” said Mizanin in a phone interview on Monday. “I don’t want to see turkey for another year.”

What he can’t wait to see, however, are the soldiers at Fort Bragg, whom he readily calls “heroes.” He is part of the star-studded “WWE Tribute to the Troops” show that will be filmed at the Crown Coliseum on Sunday at 8 p.m.

The ninth annual holiday special honoring U.S. soldiers will feature performances by R&B star Mary J. Blige, rock band Nickelback and comedian George Wallace. TV personality Maria Menounos of “Extra” and Miss USA 2011 Alyssa Campanella also will make appearances.

Tickets are being given exclusively to thousands of Fort Bragg military personnel and their families. The show is not open to the general public. The two-hour event will air Tuesday at 8 p.m. on USA with a one-hour version slated to air Dec. 17 at 9 p.m. on NBC.

Before Sunday’s big event, Mizanin and other WWE superstars will make an appearance at Sports USA on Friday at 6 p.m. to meet soldiers and their families. The appearance is open to DoD ID cardholders and their families only.

Mizanin, 31, was first introduced to the public as a cast member of MTV’s 10th season of “The Real World,” which was filmed in 2001 in New York. He took part in subsequent challenge shows on MTV for former “Real World” and “Road Rules” cast members.

He talked to the Observer about the upcoming tribute show, how he’s living his dream, his respect for soldiers and his roots in reality TV.

Observer: What can people expect at the tribute?

Mizanin: It’s the most patriotic show of the year, it really is. We pay tribute to all those soldiers who protect and serve us. We have a ton of superstars coming in. Meeting and entertaining our troops is the least we can do. It’s something that I really look forward to.

Observer: How so?

Mizanin: We’ve gone overseas a few times to Iraq to visit troops, and you just wouldn’t believe what these guys – these kids, really – go through. A lot of them are just 18, 19, 20 and 21, and they’re facing danger without a second thought. I had one guy – he was 19 – tell me about how his vehicle hit a land mine and was destroyed. But he said it like it was nothing. These guys are all heroes.

Observer: What’s it like to come to Fort Bragg and do a tribute to the troops show?

Mizanin: It’s great. We’re going to be visiting, actually, to be meeting soldiers a few days before the show. That’s my favorite part, really. You get to hear their stories and get to know them.

Observer: Do you have any military connections in your family?

Mizanin: One of my best friends in high school was a Marine who died in combat in Iraq. It was the saddest news I’ve ever had. We used to hang out and play sports together, and to hear he passed away in combat … you don’t know how to put words to it. It’s just heartbreaking.

Observer: Looking back to your “Real World” days, do you find it was easier or more difficult to have done that show before getting into wrestling?

Mizanin: A little bit of both. It was easier because I was used to the cameras and being a complete ham. It was harder because no one wanted to accept me; I was just a “reality TV guy.” They looked down on what I did. I’m still proving myself to this day. I’ll always have critics, but you’ve got to rise above that.

Observer: Was wrestling something that always fascinated you. Did you always want to be in the WWE?

Mizanin: Are you kidding me? I had the Ultimate Warrior jacket as a kid, the ring, the videos, the action figures. I was the ultimate fan. But I never thought I could do it. Hulk (Hogan) told me to eat my vitamins, so I ate my vitamins. But doing “The Real World” made me realize I could do anything in my life. That show made my dreams come true because it let me know I could make it in the WWE.

Observer: How does it feel to go from being a fan to being a superstar in the sport?

Mizanin: It’s surreal, still. It’s just one of those incredible things. Dreams aren’t supposed to come true, that’s why they’re dreams. But they did for me. I still can’t belive this is my life.

Observer: Would you ever go back and do a “Real World” challenge?

Mizanin: I’ve been asked a lot. MTV gave me my start, and I’m always grateful to them. But I’m done with doing a challenge. I’m tired of the drama that comes with that, and I don’t know the kids any more. I’d be the first one voted out. I know the game; I was a mastermind at that. I enjoy watching, though.

Observer: What advice do you have for fans who want to be in the WWE one day?

Mizanin: (Wrestler) Billy Kidman gave me the best advice. He said: “Stick with it.” It was the simplest, easiest advice I’ve ever gotten. So many people have quit, but you won’t make it if you quit. When it comes to wrestling, you have to watch it, learn from it and stick with it.

The event: The tribute will take place at the Crown Coliseum on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. Free tickets are available for Department of Defense identification cardholders at Leisure Travel Services. Two tickets per ID cardholder. Doors open at 7 p.m.

On TV: A two-hour special will air Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. on USA. A one-hour version will air Dec. 17 at 9 p.m. on NBC.
